The Roman Legion, LTD.
The Legion has many authentic and reproduction uniforms. We rely on volunteers to fill the ranks and bring the memory of America's fallen to life.
So, you say you're not the type to march down the street? That's okay. There is still a place for you! The Memorial Day Observance Committee (MDOC) can always use a helping hand. Among other things there are programs to be made, advertising to be done, uniforms to be maintained and issued out. And as the parade grows there is always the need to find more volunteers to wear the uniforms and carry the new flags and banners. Rest assured, we will find a place for you and your talents.
Here is John Harrison leading the 2008 parade as General George Washington. The MDOC wishes to express our deepest gratitude to John and his wife Danalee. For many years they have worked tirelessly behind the scenes.

We Need You!
You can contact us at romanlegionltd@yahoo.com
or call (256)706-2634.
Here are some things parade volunteers need to know.
All uniforms and other equipment are issued out at the Rome City Auditorium which is located at 601 Broad Street.
Uniform issue begins at 9am.
The front doors will be locked so you will need to go around to the back side doors.
We will have free chicken biscuits.
The uniforms are in a variety of sizes so we can not reserve or guarantee a specific uniform to anyone.
We recommend participants wear or bring a plain white t-shirt to wear under the uniform.
Please wear or bring a pair of black shoes or boots. If you forget, we do have a small supply of footwear but the sizes are limited.
In the event of inclement weather the Memorial Service will be held inside the City Auditorium.
In the spirit of Memorial Day, please understand that we do our best to let everyone wear the uniform or carry the flag that they would like. However, if that is not possible, please stay and help carry banners and other flags.
If you are going to carry one of the State flags, please wear a light (preferably white) short sleeve shirt and dark pants or blue jeans. Tennis shoes are okay, but no flip-flops.
The flag raising ceremony is at noon. Everyone who is in uniform needs to be in front of the City Auditorium by 11:45 a.m.
We will have free pizza and drinks in the auditorium after the flag raising ceremony.
At 1:30 p.m. all parade participants need to be in the auditorium to pick up banners, flags and/or other equipment. There will also be a short briefing before moving to the assembly area.
Thank you for volunteering.
Decoration Day
"...gather around their sacred remains and garland the passionless mounds above them with choicest flowers of springtime....let us in this solemn presence renew our pledges to aid and assist those whom they have left among us as sacred charges upon the Nation's gratitude,--the soldier's and sailor's widow and orphan." --General John Logan
General Order No. 11, 5 May 1868
